Rangers linked with loan deal for exciting Liverpool midfielder – report

New Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is reportedly close to signing Liverpool attacking midfielder Ovie Ejaria, according to a report in The Scottish Sun.
Since officially starting work at Ibrox at the start of the month, the former England captain has been linked with moves for several players – including those who he has worked or played with during his time at Anfield.
Charged with the task of lifting Rangers from third place in the Scottish Premiership to once again challenge for honours, he has his work cut out and is keen to rebuild his squad as quickly as possible.
Confirmed arrivals at Ibrox ahead of the season are goalkeeper Allan McGregor from Hull City, midfielder Scott Arfield from Burnley and winger Jamie Murphy from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Meanwhile, the club will lose David Bates, who joins Hamburg on a free transfer and Jordan Thompson, who is being released, and others may well follow them out of the club.
And after being recently linked with Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke, Gerrard is now rumoured to be close to signing Ejaria.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland, where he made 11 appearances in the Championship, scoring one goal.
With the Reds prepared to let Ejaria leave the club on loan again this season, linking up with Gerrard at Rangers could be an ideal destination for the England Under-21 international.
Capable of playing in defensive, central or attacking midfield, he has been used mostly centrally by Sunderland although he has played just in front of the back four while playing for Liverpool’s Under-23s this season.
Gerrard – who would know about the qualities Ejaria offers from his time at Anfield – will want to bring him to Scotland quickly so he can work with the squad ahead of their Europa League qualifiers next month.
