Loris Karius has undergone a scan on his head as Liverpool’s medical team were concerned that he had suffered a concussion in the Champions League final, according to ESPN.
The broadcaster revealed that according to their sources the 24-year-old goalkeeper, who earns £50,000-a-week according to The Sun, flew to the United States to see a specialist in Boston and had a scan as the Reds were concerned he had suffered a head trauma.
ESPN report that Karius has opted to remain in the US for a holiday, with no word on his results, and will return to the Reds for pre-season on July 2.
OPINION
It seems the Reds’ medical team were concerned for the shot-stopper well-being after his clash with Sergio Ramos in the final as it seems to be them ordering Karius to get checked out. This is a worrying update on the goalkeeper but also shows the tremendous care the current medical team are taking regarding Jurgen Klopp’s players at the club. Head traumas, such as concussions, are very serious especially if left undetected let alone untreated. The Reds have taken great care to not only send him to one of the best specialists in the field of head traumas, according to ESPN, but to ensure he got fully tested before taking a well deserved break. While ESPN added that the Reds declined to comment regarding the story, it seems believable that he did previously jet out to the US just to be assessed. Karius’ collision with Ramos in the final looked a pretty nasty one so he could have realistically picked up some serious damage from the incident.
