Mark Lawrenson suggests time is right for Liverpool to sign Butland

It is clear that strengthening the goalkeeper position is, or at least should be, one of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's primary objectives this transfer window.
After Loris Karius's Champions League final performance, in which he gifted Real Madrid two goals in their 3-1 win over Liverpool, a whole host of names have been linked with a move to Anfield.
One of these players is Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland and, with the Potters being relegated, he will be readily available and is far too good to be playing in the Championship next season.
Jack Butland talks to the press at St Georges Park on May 22, 2018 in Burton-upon-Trent, England.
He conceded 61 goals in 35 Premier League appearances for Stoke this season, keeping just six clean sheets; yet this is more symbolic of Stoke's failures on a whole rather than Butland's individual ability.
At the age of 25, the player has more time to develop as a 'keeper and Liverpool will definitely factor this into consideration when weighing up a possible move for the England international.
Speaking to Radio Five Live on Sunday 3 June, Liverpool legend and BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson said that Butland "had a poor season" adding that "this might be the time to take him."
Regarding the effect this will have on Liverpool's finances, Lawrenson added: "I don’t think the budget was assigned for the outfield player. [Klopp] might miss out on an outfield player to get a goalkeeper."

Butland has been named in England's 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup and is the only goalkeeper in the squad with prior tournament experience, having been selected for Euro 2012.
He has seven caps for England and made his debut against Italy in August 2012, which made him England's youngest ever goalkeeper at the age of 19.
